On Feb. 3, the city will open Front Street to vehicular traffic for the first time in 40 years. Mayor Don Walters will lead two commemorative buses on the inaugural trip down the two-block stretch. The buses will be followed by a 1978 Trans Am and a new Tesla to symbolize “the ushering in of a new day of economic growth and innovation.”

The 100 bus seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pick up a ticket at the Pavilion, 2085 Front St., starting at 8 a.m. the morning of the event. The buses will depart at 10 a.m. and return to the Pavilion. There will be a short presentation and light refreshments.

A larger community party, including a parade, to celebrate the grand reopening of Front Street is being planned for June 2.
